Pair of bold thieves seen forcefully snapping bike chain to steal bicycle from residential street

WATCH as two brazen thieves steal a bike from outside a house in broad daylight on a residential street as cars and pedestrians watch on.

Footage captured by a passerby shows the duo making quick work of a bike chain in order to lift the bike from Whitehall Road, Bristol on Sunday.

In a rather unconventional approach, they twist the bike around the lamppost it is secured to until the lock snaps.

They then make off with the stolen bicycle without being challenged by any of the numerous witnesses.

The two dark-clothed men can be seen manhandling the bike, which is chained to a lamppost outside a row of houses.

Cars drive past with nobody stopping for a second look as the two men furiously tug at the bike chain in an attempt to snap it.

Rattling noises can be heard as they twist and pull it around the pole until it is vertical, then completely upside down and suspended in the air.

They push the bike back down towards the ground with the chain giving way and snapping with a loud sound as the bike crashes to the ground.

The whole operation took the pair of brazen thieves less than 40 seconds with them escaping quickly after stealing the bicycle.

The two then make their getaway, one on the stolen bike, the other on an e-scooter, holding another bike.

The clip was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Meanwhile in Bristol.”

It has since received over 900 likes and more than 140 comments from social media users sharing their thoughts.

One said: “And people wonder why we don’t want to buy a bike to get around.”

Another quipped: “I wish the guy had come out and flattened them.”

A third wrote: “Are we just going to pretend like the person recording isn’t there and could’ve literally stopped the crime?

“Crimes stopping starts with the community and people on the ground, police are secondary.”

Another commented: “Openly filmed and they don’t care as they realise they will face zero consequences even if caught.”

A fifth joked: “Hopefully they fall off.”
