Cleaner highlights extent of nitrous oxide problem after finding hundreds of empty canisters left in hotel room

A CLEANER has highlighted the extent of the nitrous oxide problem after finding hundreds of empty canisters left behind in a hotel room.

The shocking find is reportedly a common sight for the anonymous cleaner who frequents hotels and Airbnbs in Dublin, Ireland.

The room was left cluttered with countless boxes of used ‘nos’ canisters, inhaled by the occupants for a momentary high.

Nitrous oxide – commonly known as laughing gas – is now classified as a Class C drug in the UK, with possession of the substance being illegal if it is, or is likely to be, wrongfully inhaled

The cleaner was appalled at the state of the hotel room.

Following the hotel cleaner’s snap though, countless users are now calling for a similar crackdown in Ireland, with some claiming the problem is getting out of hand.

The image shows the darkness of the hotel room, with its floor obscured completely by nos canisters and boxes, and the curtains drawn and bed unmade.

It looks like the aftermath of a serious party with empty boxes of alcohol and laughing gas littering the entire room.

Emptied cans of nos have been left on the bed, wrapped up in the dishevelled sheets, and a pair of boots also appear to have been left on the floor.

The shocking image was shared to social media after the cleaner sent it to a friend in an effort to expose the extent of the problem.

It was posted yesterday with the caption: “Nitrous oxide. My friend is a cleaner for Airbnbs and hotels in Dublin.

“She sent me this and said this is what she has to deal with after most weekends.

“I had no idea it was this out of hand. The gas companies must be making a fortune. Surely the government need to ban it like the UK have done.”

The horrifying post has since received over 640 likes and more than 265 comments from concerned social media users.

One user said: “Every quiet car park and layby around Dublin and North Wicklow is littered with empty Fastgas cylinders on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

“Things f***ed, the Fastgas website pretends it’s mostly for culinary use but also promises discreet packaging and delivery.”

Another wrote: “Holy s**t. That is f***ing crazy. Can’t believe they are getting away with flavoured nitrous.”

A third joked: “They must really like baking.”

Another added: I’m so naive, that I thought this was something boy racers put in cars to make them go faster. People are inhaling this? Christ above.”

A fifth commented: “I live in Clondalkin and those cannisters are everywhere. Just boxes of them in every field and laneway.”
