AN ELECTRIC car charging point has sparked controversy after one Brit discovered two diesel generators being used to power it.
A member of the public spotted the pair of generators chugging away on Saturday in Northumberland, providing power to the eco-friendly charging point for electric vehicles (EVs).
Asking what “the f***ing point” was, the local’s discovery has sparked outrage amongst the populace, with many online fuming over the “virtue signalling” charger.
Videoing the generators in action, the anonymous bloke says: “Would you believe that? Two diesel generators powering a charging point.”
The short video shows the two large diesel generators, chugging away loudly, linked to the charging point with cables.
The man then pans the camera slightly to show the charging point emblazoned with the Northumberland County Council logo on the side.
Incredulous, the man continues, “What’s the f***ing point of that” as he pans his camera back to the two loud generators.
The footage of the not so eco-friendly EV charging station was shared to social media on Saturday with the caption: “In Northumberland, UK diesel generators are used to power electric charging points to power electric cars.
“What an absolute scam.”
The video has since received over 25,000 likes and more than 820 comments from social media users.
One user said: “Using diesel generators to charge electric cars is like hiring a coal miner to power your solar panels.
“It’s the automotive equivalent of clapping with oven mitts – you might make some noise, but you’re missing the point entirely.”
Another wrote: “That’s quite a sight. I wonder how much it costs to run those generators compared to using the grid.
“It’s ironic that fossil fuels are being used to power electric cars.”
A third replied: “So they are driving diesel cars? How ‘green’.”
Another commented: “And that is what ‘green’ virtue signalling looks like.”
A fifth added: “Complete idiocy.”
