ANDY Murray has offered a piece of hilarious advice to Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud after the latter’s scintillating point win in the US Open.
Ruud faced Gaël Monfils in the second round of the competition yesterday where, in one incredible display reminiscent of Murray’s defensive playing style, the Norwegian fought back to claim an incredible tie-break point.
Taking to social media post-match, the 25-year-old shouted out Murray – who retired from the game after bowing out in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics – crediting his performance as a “tribute point” to the Scotsman.
Murray, 37, has since responded with admiration for Ruud’s amazing point win – but offered a tongue-in-cheek piece of advice for the current world number eight.
Sharing the clip of his impressive point win which eventually won him the match, Ruud wrote: “A tribute point to Andy Murray, you’re missed over here.”
The Scots sporting legend fired back this morning, responding kindly and taking the opportunity to crack a joke at his own expense.
Murray said: “Love to see it. What a point.
“Word of warning though. Keep doing that for a few more years and you’ll end up with hips like me too.”
The tennis stars’ exchange has since received over 5,700 likes and more than 35 comments from fans left in stitches.
One user said: “He isn’t leaving the hip joke anytime.”
Another wrote: “For a career like yours, I’m sure he’d think it’s worth it.”
A third replied: “That’ll be you again at Wimbledon in a couple of years when you stop messing around playing golf and make a tennis comeback.”
Another commented: “He is right though, you are missed at the US open and will be missed at all other tournaments.”
A fifth added: “Lovely tribute from a fellow athlete.”
