Dara Ó Briain meets Miriam Margolyes on return flight from Edinburgh Fringe – assures Brits that legendary actress is “exactly as delightful as you’d hope”

DARA Ó Briain has enjoyed “one final treat” as he left the Edinburgh Fringe as he ended up sharing his flight back to London with legendary actress Miriam Margolyes.

The 52-year-old comedian had his own show at this year’s Fringe for the first time since 2005 whilst Margolyes appeared at the Scottish capital’s month-long festival for the first time in 12 years.

However, it was only on the return leg that the pair’s paths crossed with the Irishman being seated right in front of the 83-year-old entirely by chance.

Thankfully, the former Mock the Week host put any doubts to bed as he reassured fans that the iconic Harry Potter actress was “exactly as delightful as you’d hope”.

Ó Briain had been performing his new stand-up show, My Entire Life is a Work in Progress, whilst Margolyes did a shorter run of shows combining her passion for Charles Dickens with a brutally honest question and answer session.

Ó Briain shared a selfie of the two on board the plane, with Margolyes sitting in the row behind him.

He posted the snap to social media yesterday with the caption: “One final treat from the Edinburgh Fringe.

“In the seat behind me on the plane home was genuine national treasure, Miriam Margolyes, and she was exactly as delightful as you would hope.”

His post has since received over 25,000 likes and more than 400 comments from social media users sharing their reactions.

One wrote: “She has the look of devilment. I’d love to know what you talked about.”

Another said: “You’ll be one of her anecdotes on Graham Norton soon. Prepare yourself.”

A third commented: “Would pay to eavesdrop on that conversation.”

Another joked: “For reasons of national security should the two of you be allowed on the same plane?”

A fifth however, said sourly: “I’d rephrase that and say ‘as delightful as you’d expect’. The woman is an embarrassment to civilisation. Rude, bitter and offensive.”
