BRITS have been left questioning their career choices after an NHS role was mistakenly advertised with a salary of up to £4.4bn.
One job-hunter spotted the hilarious typo in a listing on LinkedIn on Monday, which saw the NHS seeking a “highly specialised” cardiac physiologist based between two hospitals in Somerset.
According to the official NHS listing, the role should offer a salary range of between £43,742 and £50,056 per year – quite some way off the wage listed in error.
Instead, applicants on LinkedIn could apparently expect a whopping ten-figure annual sum for their expertise – which would work out at over £2m an hour.
The listing appears just like any other job posting on the professional networking site, detailing the location and skills required for the role.
However, the salary is not highlighted or displayed prominently, so would require somebody to really be paying attention to notice the typo.
It reads: “£43.7K/yr – £4.4B/yr. On site. Full-time.”
The slip-up has led to many Brits online calculating just how little time somebody would have to work in the role in order to still take home a hefty sum.
Raking in £4.4bn per year before tax means any lucky candidate would dwarf the annual estimated earnings of even top celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kanye West.
The listing was shared to social media on Monday with the caption: “I’m not highly specialised, but I’ll give it a go for £4.4 billion a year.”
The post has since received over 5,300 likes and more than 250 comments from social media users left in stitches.
One wrote: “Ask to be paid weekly. That is, post-taxes, around £76 million a week. Stay on the job for the onboarding and to then leave for a cool £160 million.”
A second commented: “Around 2,080 working hours a year, that works out as £2,115,384.61 an hour. Bluff your way to lunch and you’re set up.”
Another joked: “I’ll let you practice on me first if you send me £1 billion?”
A fourth said: “I’ve seen enough Grey’s Anatomy to be able to give it a good go I think.”
Another added: “Recruiters using AI to write job specifications, but don’t you dare submit a cover letter or CV written by AI, that’s lazy and shows bad character and work ethic.”
Cardiac physiologists are clinical staff involved in the treatment of patients with heart conditions, carrying out diagnostic procedures and analysing the results.
The average salary for a role at this level in the UK is between £46,244 and £53,789 per year.
