POLICE Scotland have arrested a drunken bloke riding an illegal adapted e-bike – and charged him with almost every driving offence in the book.
The 32-year-old was spotted by officers in Dalkeith, Midlothian on Friday, but fled upon being approached.
His attempts to evade his pursuers proved fruitless though, and he was duly caught and charged with almost every offence possible.
The man’s rap sheet saw him charged with drink driving, drug driving, dangerous driving, driving with no insurance and no licence, and failing to stop for police.
The illegally modified e-bike initially attracted officers’ attention when it was spotted on Eskbank Road.
Cops tried to stop the driver but he fled – and racked up some of his charges in the ensuing chase.
After being caught, officers breathalysed and drug swiped the man on the roadside and found him to be under the influence of both drugs and alcohol.
The driver tested positive for cocaine and cannabis, hitting a trifecta of intoxicants while driving his illegal e-bike.
Police Scotland shared an image of the illegally modified e-bike to social media yesterday.
They wrote: “On 23/08/24 Dalkeith RP (Road Police) observed this adapted e-bike on Eskbank Road, Dalkeith.
“A pursuit ensued and the 32-year-old male rider was arrested for: drink driving, positive drugwipe for cocaine and cannabis, no licence, no insurance, fail to stop for police, dangerous driving”
The post has since received dozens of likes and comments from social media users stunned at the driver’s slew of offences.
One user said: “You could collect 50 of these bikes in a day on Princes Street; they are absolutely everywhere, but it’s still the driver on the phone that’s the real danger.”
Another wrote: “For crusher I hope.”
A third replied: “Nice one. These idiots need to be taken off the road.”
Another commented: “You stopped one. How strange. Now how about the rest of them?”
A fifth added: “Not an e-bike. It’s an electric motorcycle. Please stop mislabelling these things because you give legitimate e-bike riders a bad rep.”
