Tesco’s latest over-the-top security measures spotted – as supermarket chain tags bottles of children’s paint

TESCO’S latest over-the-top security measures have been spotted – this time on bottles of children’s craft paint.

The colourful bottles were spotted encased in clear plastic security boxes in one unnamed store yesterday.

Priced at only £1.30 each and rarely considered a target for shoplifting, the measure seems an extreme and peculiar action to take.

However, Brits online have been quick to speculate it may be to prevent mindless vandalism, rather than theft.

Tesco has already been seen taking drastic action to prevent thefts of other goods.

Content previously shared to social media had shown bottles of spirits kept behind locked cabinets and covered in secure wire mesh, and tags attached to cans of Red Bull

This time though, an image shows shelves stuffed with craft materials, including tissue paper, coloured card and paintbrushes.

The once-innocent bottles of paint of various colours sit on a lower shelf.

Each is protected by a chunky clear plastic box, sealed with a solid grey lid that a staff member would have to release.

The snap was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Tagging is getting out of hand.”

The post has since received a host of likes and comments from Brits sharing their thoughts on the latest security upgrade.

One asked: “Was paint really getting nicked that much they had to box it up?”

A second said: “For £1.30 worth of paint, it’s barely worth the effort sometimes.”

Another commented: “I reckon this is less a security or theft issue and more some absolute b***ends have caused havoc with them previously.”

Another replied: “I bet there was a toddler level paint explosion that some poor assistant had to mop up.”

A fourth wrote: “Had a group of kids in my town steal paint and glue then proceed to squirt it all over a shop, so this doesn’t surprise me.”

Another said: “Soon Tesco will be like Argos, you order off a screen, somebody picks your order and brings it out to you.”
