AN IRISH superbike rider has been left fuming after being charged a whopping extra £75 by Ryanair just to take his trophy home with him.
Jack Kennedy, a rider for Honda Racing, bagged his sixth victory of the year in the Quattro Group British Supersport feature race at the Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire, England on Sunday.
Buzzing with the win, the four-time British Supersport champion was en-route home to the Emerald Isle yesterday with his trophy in hand when he was met with the news that bringing the silverware along would cost him extra.
The 36-year-old was slapped with a £75 charge by the airline for the privilege of taking his hard-earned trophy along with him on the flight.
Left fuming by the surprise additional charge, Kennedy shared an image of himself holding up the trophy while waiting to board the plane.
The snap shows a Ryanair jet on the tarmac of Birmingham Airport with the trophy held high in the air in front of it.
A queue of people boarding the plane can be seen with Jack obviously waiting to get onto his flight home.
The unannounced extra charge left Jack with a bitter taste and he took to social media to let Ryanair know.
His post, shared yesterday, was captioned: “Nice one Ryanair charging me £75 to bring my trophy on board that I won in the UK and travelling home to Ireland FR667.
“What an absolute joke.”
The post received over 865 likes and more than 140 comments from social media users who were likewise frustrated by the airline’s policy.
One user said: “I would have worn it like a hat and challenged them if they said it wasn’t, well done mate.”
Another wrote: “Will never use them, total rip off merchants, charged my son €70 to print out his boarding pass.”
A third replied: “Said it before. I’d rather swim to a destination than give them money.”
Another commented: “Wow. What a joke. Ryanair, you should be ashamed of yourselves.”
A fifth joked: “Would have been cheaper to buy the trophy a seat.”
