Manchester man protests as police confront him with demands to uncover his face amid “disorder” concerns

A DISGRUNTLED Manchester man protested as he was ordered by police to uncover his face amid “disorder” concerns.

Officers approached the anonymous man on New Cathedral Street in the Rainy City yesterday after clocking his covered face.

Requesting that he pulls his face covering down in line with new rules put in place due to disorder expected in the city that day, the snarky bloke took issue with the demand, arguing that he “doesn’t want to be on facial recognition cameras”.

Two police officers, wearing high-visibility vests full of equipment with black tops and black caps, face the camera. The officer on the left is miming pulling something off his face. A glass-fronted building and two older buildings are visible behind.
The officers had to ask the man more than once to pull down his face covering

As riots raged throughout the country, many protestors have been seen with their faces hidden to conceal their identity.

However in Manchester, Section 60A powers have been put in place as a safety measure, allowing police to order the removal of coverings such as balaclavas.

With the entire encounter filmed by the bloke, one of the officers comes up to the man, miming pulling something off his face.

He says: “You need to uncover your face whilst you’re getting around.”

He then explains the rule put in place, but is met with a defensive response from the man, who claims: “I’m not covering my face though.”

When the officer tries to tell him it is partly covered, he cheekily hits back with: “It’s my chin. Uncover my face? What?”

The officer tries to explain again, asking him to listen, but the bloke boldly interrupts again, saying: “No you listen to me, I wasn’t covering my face.”

The officer patiently explains: “We’re expecting disorder, this is what we’re trying to prevent, so this is why it’s been put in place.

“I’m not saying you’re up to anything.”

The man insists he doesn’t want to be on facial recognition cameras and asks if he can walk around with his head down instead, which both officers confirm is acceptable.

He appears to be suspicious they think he is up to something though, and says: “I weren’t doing anything to you guys.”

The female officer is quick to reassure him: “I know, it’s just what’s in place at the moment.”

Still confused, the man admits he didn’t know this had become a law.

The officers issue him with a leaflet detailing the measures put in place in Manchester with the threat of disorder.

Other measures include sanctioned stop-and-searches, police confiscating weapons and ordering dispersal of an area.

The video was shared to social media yesterday where it has since received over 4,000 likes and more than 2,600 comments from Brits unimpressed by the bloke’s attitude.

One said: “As long as it’s the same rules for everyone.”

Another wrote: “Why do people think they are above the law, always got an argument.”

A third joked: “Four years ago we were told to cover our faces with masks, can’t win.”

Another commented: “This is the problem. He’s been told the reason, knows what’s going on and still being a k**b, get the baton and talk to him with that.

“Give police the power to police again.”

A fifth said: “What’s he hiding if he doesn’t want anyone to recognise him?”
