A PAIR of thieves making their getaway on a moped narrowly evaded police by brazenly throwing the TV they had nicked at their pursuing officer.
The dodgy duo was clocked by a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) motorcycle officer on the A57 motorway on Sunday, balancing the huge TV on the back of their tiny bike.
The pair didn’t fancy sticking around when confronted by the officer though, resorting to launching the TV at their pursuer’s bike during the chase and making a swift getaway.
The twosome turned their moped around and seemingly drove towards the traffic back along the Mancunian Way carriageway, where they managed to escape, avoiding spending the night in the cells.
GMP officers managed to grab a photo of the criminals mid-getaway, riding along with their abnormally large cargo balanced between them.
It shows the pair of thieves on a small moped holding a large TV in a box between them, perpendicular to the road.
The moped’s number plate seems to be covered with duct tape to avoid detection by police officers.
The pair are dressed in all black with motorcycle helmets obscuring their faces, making them impossible to identify.
The bloke at the back appears to be taking a selfie or filming their stunt on camera, shamelessly broadcasting their attempted theft.
Sharing the snap to social media on Sunday, the GMP wrote: “Sometimes words fail us.
“But it’s no surprise that the occupants didn’t want to stick around when sighted by our motorcycle unit on the Mancunian Way.
“The TV was thrown at the pursuing police rider and the would-be thieves then made off contra back along the carriageway.”
The post has since received over 280 likes and more than 25 comments from shocked social media users.
