Brits slam “skanky” shoplifters after Tesco store is forced to place security tags on £2 cans of Red Bull

BRITS have slammed “skanky” shoplifters after a Tesco store in Bristol was forced to place security tags on £2 cans of Red Bull.

The supermarket in Victoria Street in the city centre was seen putting the energy drinks under metaphorical lock and key in a snap from the store on Tuesday.

The security measure seems to have been introduced to combat the swiping of the drinks by brazen thieves.

The move has sparked debate online though, with some blaming those behind shoplifting whilst others demanded focus be shifted onto dealing with the perpetrators themselves rather than having “normal people work around them”.

The drastic measure has divided opinions on social media

The photo shows three shelves of various flavours of Red Bull in the supermarket’s meal deal section, priced between £1.90 or £2 individually.

Chunky black and white plastic security tags, which give the appearance of an added lid, are attached to every can.

The shelf below is just visible, and holds cans of Monster energy drink, which bizarrely are not security tagged.

The picture was shared to social media on Tuesday with the caption: “Yes, that’s a security tag on Red Bull. Some right skanky people about.”

It has since received over 40 likes and more than 30 comments from locals sharing their take on the situation.

One commented: “There needs to be a Waitrose down in that area, then the poshos leave Tesco so the guards can spot the chavs better.”

A second wrote: “They’ll never just nick a can of Monster (untagged just in shot below)… would they?”

Another said: “Meh. Chavs going to chav. Address that problem instead of trying to gloss over it and make normal people work around them.”

A fourth said: “I thought they had redesigned the can to have a resealable cap and got excited, was disappointed when it got taken off at checkout.”

Another commented: “They should be paying us to drink that s**t.”
