A GROUP of Scots engineers walked, ran and cycled as they raised a record-breaking amount for the cancer charity.
The engineers from East Kilbride-based Dougall Baillie Associates took part in various fundraising efforts across the UK to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity
The group collected a record-breaking amount totalling £4,731.90 for the Beatson Cancer Charity in a series of pre-summer events.
The money raised will help the charity provide complementary therapies for patients at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Care Centre.
Sean McBride led the way for the walkers with a total of 505,268 Fitbit-counted steps over the course of March.
This is the equivalent of 16,299 steps a day, exceeding the daily target of 10,000 and totals to more than 250 miles covered during the month
Stephen Laird clocked up 424,527 steps and Alan Ferns completed 403,106.
Sean Purves completed the 26.2 miles of the Brighton Marathon in April, running from city to coast helping to bring the total raised at the event to £1.25m.
A team made up of ten cyclists and two support crews tackled the demanding Five Ferries Challenge on Saturday 11 May.
The 52-mile route involved cycling through Arran, Kintyre, the Cowal Peninsula and the Isle of Bute before returning to the mainland at Wemyss Bay in Ayrshire.
The engineering group has said that they are trying to think up of new ways to continue their fundraising efforts beyond the summer.
Fergus Adams, managing director of Dougall Baillie Associates, said: “We would like to thank our many colleagues, clients, suppliers, families and friends who have contributed to this magnificent sum of £4,731.90.
“The events have inspired everyone involved to come up with new ways to contribute and I’m sure we will smash a few more records.”
