EDINBURGH locals have slammed the city council over lazy road repairs after workmen tarmacked around parked vehicles.
The repairs to the road in Trinity, Leith left locals furious when the shoddy tarmac was discovered yesterday.
Workmen left a patchwork pattern on the street after carrying out the repairs to the road but not bothering to ask or force locals to move their vehicles and instead just working around them.
Residents also slammed the quality of the repairs, with just a simple gritty layer of tarmac being thrown down, claiming it would break again in a matter of months.
An image of the shoddy job was shared to social media by a frustrated local who took the opportunity to vent their exasperation.
The photograph of the recently repaired street shows an instance where workers tarmacked around a food truck.
The mobile restaurant – Flame Grill and Carvery – can be seen parked on the side of the road against the kerb.
Resting on the old, pre-repaired road with a traffic cone placed lazily in front of it, the food truck has been blocked in its space by the Council’s repair work.
A significant amount of black tarmac has been poured around the vehicle and, even when smoothed over, has created a significant rise in the road around the parked truck.
The workers carrying out the repairs are reported to have done the same with several other vehicles parked on the road.
A patchwork of old and new surfaces now exists with no sign or indication of the workers returning to resolve it.
The standard of the repair was also slated, with several pointing out that the layer of tarmac will crack and break as soon as cold weather comes around.
The image was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Edinburgh roadworks.”
“Edinburgh Council putting their legendary roadworks out again in Trinity this time. Several cars left and resurfaced around.”
The post has received over 90 likes and more than 50 comments from social media users and locals.
One user joked: “Wait, you guys are getting roadworks?”
Another commented: “Nonsense, they could tow them they just can’t be a***d.”
A third wrote: “They did the same over a year ago, maybe two, in Gorgie /Slateford area.
“A layer of chippings over the existing bumps, so all the bumps are still there, and around a dozen patches left where the cars were parked. No sign of them coming back.”
Another added: “Wow. A resurface like this is going to generate potholes within a year.
“This really does nothing but temporarily make the council look good because they fixed the road.
“Speaking of incompetence. One decent winter and the asphalt will break instantly. Of course, ignoring the fact they didn’t remove vehicles from the road.”
A fifth replied: “In my street they literally had a tow truck on site at 8:30 and moved all the cars that were parked there.”
