Londoners ridicule Uber CEO for suggesting Lime bikes are an affordable way to commute as locals slate prices

THE CEO of Uber has been ridiculed by Londoners after suggesting Lime bikes are an affordable way to commute around the city.

Dara Khosrowshahi raved about the efficiency of the bikes after seemingly riding one into his office on Monday.

The bikes, which can be rented on the Uber app, can be found for pick-up on the capital’s streets but have proven controversial amongst residents over their prices and the makeshift obstacle courses they can create on the pavements.

Whilst 55-year-old Khosrowshahi compared the price per ride with that of a regular Uber trip, locals have been quick to point out the expensive reality of using the bikes in day-to-day life.

Londoners were quick to hit back at Kosrowshahi

Khosrowshahi shared a picture of himself sitting astride one of the green and white bikes on the side of a busy London street.

The snap was shared to social media with the caption: “My London office commute for £7.33. Just a wonderful (and efficient) way to move in a beautiful city.”

The post has since received over 1,500 likes and more than 600 comments from disgruntled Londoners keen to share their own thoughts.

One said: “Is that per day?”

He replied: “Each way. Pretty long ride. Regular Uber typically costs £20.”

Another user hit back with: “Good lord. May as well just get a £150 secondhand bike at that rate.

“You’ll be quids in in no time. Probably a nicer bike than these tanks too.”

Another comment said: “So £300 a month or £3,500 a year to… rent a bike?”

Another wrote: Is this a joke? Or are you cycling in from Oxford?”

A fourth commented: “Why are you gloating? City bikes in Barcelona are 50 cents for 30 minutes and you are never more than a three minute walk from one.”

A fifth said: “Not in London. My bike was locked in a secure parking lot and also chained to a bike storage pole, and it was gone in less than 15 minutes.”
