Brazen car thief takes motor on joyride around newly opened skatepark

A BRAZEN car thief took a stolen motor on a joyride around a new skatepark, only a little over a week after it was opened.

The grey Ford Ka was driven into the new skatepark on Pooles Lane in Hullbridge, Essex on Sunday having apparently been stolen from the nearby city of Southend-on-Sea.

The driver rallied the car onto the skatepark – which was only opened on 12 July – before seemingly trying their hand at doughnuts and other tricks, leaving the fresh surface covered in skid marks.

Essex Police have since picked up the vehicle, which was abandoned in the skatepark’s bowl but are still seeking information on the thief’s whereabouts.

Images show the Ford abandoned at the bottom of one of the high skate ramps, with both front doors wide open.

The brand-new surface is marked by a collection of skid marks surrounding the vehicle.

Most of them go round in circles, hinting at quite a few attempts at doughnuts.

A water bottle can also be seen discarded on the ground next to the car.

The pictures were shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Police are looking into an incident where a stolen car was joy ridden into a skate park last night.

“The car was reportedly stolen from Southend before being driven to Hullbridge where it entered the skate park

“The car was then heard doing ‘doughnuts’ in the skate park and attempting other tricks.

“The skate park was only opened by the local council one week ago. Police are now arranging recovery of the vehicle.”

The post has since received over 160 likes and over 70 comments from locals amused by the bizarre incident.

One said: “Practicing for the Italian Job.”

Another commented: “I kind of want to see the video of it dropping into the bowl.”

A third said: “That looks like a lot of fun, not the car stealing though.”

A fourth wrote: “Sure beats Love Island I suppose.”

Another commented: “Impossible. It’s a front wheel drive car. It’s physically impossible for it to ‘doughnut’.”

Another replied: “Not if you do it backwards, you’ve never lived your life.”

Speaking today, an Essex Police spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a stolen vehicle driven into Hullbridge Skatepark in Pooles Lane early on Monday 22 July.

“The vehicle, a Ford Ka, left the road and drove into the skatepark.

“Witnesses reported two suspects leaving the scene at about 3.45am.

“The car has now been recovered and our investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
