Londoner begs council to fix drains after rainfall leaves busy road flooded and pavements awash

A LONDONER has begged his local council to fix the city’s drains after rainfall left a busy road completely flooded and pavements awash.

Simon Lamrock captured footage of the extensive flooding on Euston Road in Central London yesterday following heavy rainfall that blocked the road’s drains.

Battering down from the heavens, the rain caused extensive flooding with a video showing the full extent of the issue as pavements and the road alike were left under inches of water as shops were even forced to use sandbags to protect their business.

The shocking video footage shows the road under a thick carpet of water, that sloshes over the kerb and drenches the pavement as well.

Businesses had to put sandbags in front of their doors in an effort to keep water out.

Simon records buses, cars and taxis forging a path through the water with spray being launched onto the pavement by passing vehicles.

He pans his camera to show the pavement, which is likewise submerged in water, leaving pedestrians to wade through the makeshift pond

The flooding has gotten so bad that businesses have placed sandbags outside their doors to try and prevent their buildings from flooding.

A worker with a mop can be seen through a glass door, desperately trying to stop the water coming into their store.

Each time a vehicle passes, great waves of water from the road are sent cascading across the pavement.

Simon stands and films the scene for a while capturing the extent of the flooding issue as more water continues to build up atop the blocked drains.

He later took to social media to beg Transport for London (TfL), Thames Water and his local council to address the flooding issue in the city.

Simon posted his footage to social media yesterday with the caption: “Euston Road flooded after predicted rain – pedestrian crossings impassable, local business sandbagging doors.

“C’mon TfL, Thames Water, Camden Council, fix the drains.”

Simon’s shocking footage has received over 350 likes and more than 45 comments from shocked social media users.

One user said: “So many of the drains in that area are literally blocked over. I hope the businesses sue. They pay business rates, and this is the treatment they get?”

Another added: “With climate change this is inevitable. Wonder how long before the value of Central London plots plummet in value.”

A third wrote: “Ask yourself. When was the last time you saw a drain cleaning lorry in your area? This is the result.”

Another commented: “Holy cow. It looks like the wake from a large boat when the bus goes by.”

A fifth replied: “I live in Central London and twice a year we would have parking restrictions while they clean the drains. We don’t anymore.”
