WATCH the astonishing moment a Scots man climbs to the top of a lamppost to rescue a trapped seagull.
Jack Kelly, 21, from Fort William, the Scottish Highlands, carried out his heroic act on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow city centre on Sunday.
While on a night out with colleagues after watching the Euros final Jack and his mates spotted the distressed bird trapped on top of a lamppost.
Leaping into action Jack clambers up the lamppost with ease and dislodges the struggling seabird.
Thanks to Jack’s intervention the bird appears to be unscathed by its ordeal and flies off quite happily.
Video footage of the incident shows Jack nimbly scale the main body of the lamppost before grabbing on to one of the bars sticking out of the top.
He hauls himself up and wraps his legs around the structure to stop himself falling before attempting to free the bird with one hand.
The seabird can be seen flapping about and struggling in distress nipping at Jack as he tries to dislodge it.
After securing a firmer footing on the lamppost Jack deftly reaches in between the metal bars and releases the trapped bird.
He grabs the animal by its wing with one hand while holding onto the lamppost with the other, lifting the bird from where it was wedged.
As he lets go the bird quickly flies out of shot as onlookers on the pavement cheer and clap for Jacks heroism.
Jack then takes a minute to celebrate, sitting on the lamppost to free both hands and pumping his fists in the air before climbing down.
It takes him a while to untangle his legs from the lamppost, but he frees himself and smoothly slides down to the ground.
A video of the rescue mission was shared to social media on Monday with the caption: “Sauchiehall Street’s seagull saver.”
