GLASWEGIANS have been left horrified after a religious preacher suggested to a grieving Scottish father that his daughter is in hell.
Reverend Jim Thornton, from the JeremiahCry Ministries group, was preaching in St Enoch Square in the city centre on Monday.
He was approached by a man who asked why God had taken his daughter, who tragically passed away at just nine years old.
The reverend then shamefully launched a barrage of questions at the man asking if he had correctly prepared his daughter for heaven by taking her to church and shamed the father for “blaming God.”
In a video shared to social media, Reverend Thornton is filmed preaching to the crowds through a microphone, while holding a Bible.
Behind him are several signs bearing religious slogans and symbols, and group members supporting him.
The person behind the camera also appears to be part of the group, every so often filming himself attempting to hand out leaflets to passing pedestrians, many of whom refuse.
As he shouts about telling lies and loving God as we should, Reverend Thornton is approached by the grieving father, who is wearing a red bodywarmer and black shorts.
The man interrupts the preaching and goes right up to the reverend, saying something unintelligible.
Reverend Thornton says: “I can’t understand what you’re saying. Speak English man, I’m American.”
The man says: “See about God, right? How come God took my nine-year-old daughter?”
Reverend Thornton immediately launches into another tirade.
He says: “Let me tell you something. We all die, because we live on a planet in rebellion against God.”
Not satisfied with the response, the man protests, but this only fuels the reverend’s angry tirade.
Reverend Thornton starts interrogating him, accusing him of all manner of religious failings.
He says: “Did you prepare your child for Heaven? Did you take your child to church? Did you teach your child to fear the Lord?
“Did you baptise your child? What did you do for your child? And here you are blaming God.”
As Thornton starts to get even more animated, the man interrupts him again, clearly starting to get upset.
Reverend Thornton shouts, waving him away: “I don’t care if she was nine years old. No disrespect intended.”
He carries on preaching in the background as the man behind the camera tries to give him a leaflet, which he bats away.
Clearly on a roll, the preaching continues until the man attempts to make his point again.
Reverend Thornton again claims not to be able to understand him, telling him to “speak American.”
The man recording the incident then accuses the grieving father of insulting the reverend, pointing the camera in his face.
The father glares at the camera and repeats himself, upset at the preacher’s words and with hurt in his voice.
He says: “I would go to God now if I could bring my nine-year-old daughter back.”
Both the reverend and his camera man ignore him, with the cameraman then tearing into the man and calling him a “drunkard”.
He calls: “Don’t get drunk man, repent being drunk. Look to Jesus.”
The clip was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “American preacher suggests to grieving Glasgow father that his child is in Hell.”
It has since received over 250 likes and more than 400 comments from disgusted social media users.
One wrote: “There needn’t be a law against them, but you shouldn’t be tolerating these dangerous, evil people on your streets.”
Another said: “This whole video made me so angry, that poor man is obviously struggling and the way he talked down to him was disgusting.”
A third commented: “That’s a dodgy approach to a guy that’s lost his child, insensitive, broaching a chance of a kicking from a grieving father.”
Another said: “I’m sorry, but that fact no-one rocked this c**t’s jaw is an affront to all our Glasgow stands for.
“We’re a pillar of free speech, not hate speech. Every one of these c**ts have to go.”
A fifth replied: “Totally agree, I was waiting for that guy to go crazy, most self-control I’ve seen from a fellow Scotsman, especially under those circumstances.”
