WATCH as a police officer is violently run down by a quad bike whilst trying to deploy spike strips to stop a group of tearaway yobs.
The shocking incident unfolded in Bradford, West Workshire yesterday, when a group of males sped through the town on dirt bikes and quad bikes.
Whilst attempting to deploy a spike strip to stop the speeding riders, one officer was dramatically hit by one of the group and dragged along the road – but heroically clung on and took the assailant to the ground, where he was promptly placed under arrest.
A video of the incident shows a large group of motorbike and quad bike riders tearing along a Bradford road, right past a police car where an officer stands, holding a spike strip.
As the group swerve around him, pursued by two police cruisers, the officer attempts to find an opening to deploy the spike strip.
He spots his moment and throws the row of spikes across the road, blocking a quad bike rider from continuing.
The quad bike driver, however, does not plan on getting caught and swerves directly towards the officer, avoiding the spike strips but striking the copper dead on.
Despite the collision, the police officer manages to grab hold of the driver and is dragged along the road before incredibly wrestling the rider off of the still-moving quad bike.
The man then tries to flee on foot, but barely gets anywhere as the officer manages to keep a firm grip on his clothing.
A female colleague then rushes over to help the officer and the pair of them wrestle the yob to the ground.
A police cruiser then pulls up to the scene and a third officer jumps out to assist their colleagues with the arrest.
An alternative angle of the clash filmed by a bystander captures the entire incident, but also sees the cameraman shout at the policeman who was struck.
Approaching the officers wrestling the offender to the floor, the cameraman shouts: “He’s a kid, leave him alone you daft c**ts.”
The officer glares back, angrily saying: “Shut the f**k up you p***k.”
The man filming then antagonises the pair further, retorting: “You’re a p***k, he’s a kid.”
At this point, a third officer intervenes, ordering the cameraman and other onlookers to leave the scene.
The dramatic footage of the incident was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Warning. These videos show a West Yorkshire police officer being hit by a quad bike.
“It happened in Bradford. There’s also some bad language.”
The dramatic post has received over 1,700 likes and more than 375 comments from shocked social media users.
One user said: “Absolutely disgusting, hope the officer was okay.”
Another added: “Fair play to that bobby, carried on scrapping like a trooper.”
A third wrote: “Outstanding courage by that officer to hold onto the offender. Let’s see the courts hand out a significant custodial sentence.”
Another replied: “Luckily for him he’ll get six months and only have to serve 40% of it.”
A fifth commented: “Hope the officer is okay. Total respect for the officer.”
Speaking today, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police received multiple reports of off-road bikes being driven dangerously in the Bradford South area at the weekend.
“On Sunday 14 July, a group of males were reported to be riding quad bikes and off-road bikes in Harold Lodge Park and then proceeded to ride at excessive speeds on the roads in the area.
“On Tong Street officers deployed a stinger after multiple bikes failed to stop for police. One suspect then rode directly into an officer injuring him.
“A 27-year-old man, from Huddersfield, was arrested for driving over the prescribed limit after testing positive following a drugs test and grievous bodily harm.
“The officer was taken to hospital for treatment on a leg injury. Enquiries are ongoing.
