Watch as gaggle of polite Canadian geese show off street smarts as they cross busy road during red light in front of waiting motorists

WATCH the moment a gaggle of polite Canadian geese show off their street smarts, waiting for a red light to cross the road in front of waiting motorists.

The group of birds was spotted crossing a section of the ring road yesterday in the centre of Wolverhampton, West Midlands

Watching on in amazement, one unnamed motorist waited at a red light, recording the large group of geese as they used proper crossing procedures in an impressive display of intelligence.

The video is filmed by the driver as he sits at the red light, and shows a group of at least 20 of the waterfowl waddling casually across the road in front of him.

The polite geese waited for cars to stop at the crossing.
The polite geese waited for cars to stop at the crossing.

Moving at a leisurely pace, the group stop to peck at the ground and enjoy their stroll as motorists are forced to patiently wait for them.

The brown-feathered birds make their way from an island in the middle of the road at a three-way junction to the pavement on the other side.

Unfortunately, the geese appear to leave one of their pals behind as a straggler is forgotten about by the faster members of the group.

The one bird lingers behind, seemingly playing chicken with motorists as the red light nears its time to change.

The video was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Safe and proper use of the crossing is what we like.”

The clip received over 750 likes and more than 40 comments from social media users stunned by the geese’s intelligence.

One user joked: “Take a gander at that lot.”

Another added: “Luckily they communicate in honks if you wanted to hurry them up a little.”

A third said: “Canada geese can reach the UK naturally during their migrations, but they were also introduced in the 17th century and seem to have taken to the place.”

Another wrote: “We get quite a few in the East Midlands along the canals, at least where I am anyway.”

A fifth commented: “Just don’t honk.”
