THIS is the heart-stopping moment that a driver narrowly avoids a head-on smash after continuously driving on the wrong side of the road.
Peter McIntyre captured the shocking footage yesterday on his dashcam as he drove – on the correct side of the road – in the Scottish Highlands and tried to alert the bungling driver in front of him to their error.
His attempts were unsuccessful as the driver of the blue BMW – which some reckon could be a hire car – continued their journey on the A82 at Glencoe, blissfully unaware of the danger ahead.
Video shows the motor in the wrong lane as Peter languishes behind whilst flashing his lights to alert the driver to the issue.
Whilst rounding a bend, Peter tries in vain to alert the driver to the potentially life-threatening issues that could be waiting in a head-on smash.
Unable to close the gap, the Scotsman watches on as the driver of the car continues to speed through sections of the Scottish Highlands.
As the driver takes a blind bend due to their wrong position on the road, they emerge into the path of an oncoming motor.
The hire car driver manages to swerve just enough to avoid a crash as the driver of the Volkswagen Golf breaks rapidly to cease their momentum.
The shocking clip was shared to social media by Peter yesterday with the caption: “This guy nearly put an end to his holiday on the A82 at Glencoe.
“Even with me flashing my lights and blowing my horn, he kept on going.”
The footage received over 900 likes and hundreds of comments from fuming Scots motorists who couldn’t believe what they had seen.
One said: “Anytime I see an MG or a BMW with recently issued plates I keep well back as likely a hire car.
“These folk must get given the keys and told to get on with it- some of the driving is insane.”
Another added: “Just as well they didn’t come up against an Arctic [lorry], seen some awful driving on that road.”
A third replied: “[The driver] needs [their] licence taken away, imagine a motorcycle coming the other way.”
Another commented: “Tourist, happens all the time I’m afraid.”
A fifth remarked: “They must have thought they were on a dual carriageway?”
