Notorious ULEZ protestor dismantles roadworks to let traffic through, claims government and councils want to “waste our time”

THIS is the moment that the “ULEZ Robin Hood” dismantles roadworks to let traffic through amid his claims that the government and councils just want to “waste our time”.

Matt Hardy, who has amassed an online following over his dedication to remove ULEZ cameras from traffic lights, was unimpressed when he spotted the “useless set of roadworks.”

The free thinker quickly decided that he was going to help the two lanes of traffic stuck at the temporary lights over the weekend.

He proceeded to dump barriers by the side of the road and tipped traffic lights over before showing how his handiwork freed the bottleneck of traffic.

Video shows Matt strolling along the street before coming to a stop at the roadworks in a residential street in Essex.

The vigilante films a set of temporary traffic lights before panning over to multiple traffic barriers that are stood up protecting some new tarmac which has been laid down on the road.

The chalky surface over the tarmac indicates that work has only recently been completed on the road.

Matt films the road before adding: “Look at this, nothing wrong with the road and it’s delaying all the traffic, it’s a Saturday evening here. Let’s sort this out.”

The clip then cuts to show cars freely cruising down the road as other motorists wait to turn into a different street – but all now free to move without sitting at traffic lights.

The ULEZ protestor then shows off his handiwork whilst explaining his reasons for shifting the roadworks.

He says: “Now why couldn’t the road workers have left it like that on a Saturday instead of delaying everyone, so there we go folks running normally again now.

“All the traffic lights have fallen over, all the barriers are out of the road, there’s nothing wrong with the road.

“They were just delaying everyone so traffic’s running freely again and all the roadworks are safely over there, put on the side of the road ready to be collected.”

The protestor seems keen to drive home his message as he returns later in the evening to inspect his handiwork.

Matt appears annoyed by the council’s decision to put up temporary lights and offers his thoughts, saying: “There were no need for the roadworks but instead the Government, whoever done the traffic lights, the council, decided to leave these [traffic lights] here.”

His video was shared to social media over the weekend with the caption: “More useless roadworks, there for nothing but to waste our time.”

The post received over 9,300 likes with hundreds of comments from social media users with some left unimpressed by Matt’s actions whilst others praised the protestor.

One said: “It’s £1,500 a week to rent the lights, in the back pocket somewhere got to use the budget somewhere.”

Another added: “This happens all the time where I live, traffic lights not required but just left all weekend because nobody can be bothered to move them.”

A third replied: “The contractor who did the tarmac is probably different to the traffic control, they will be back on Monday.”

Another commented: “All planned to upset everyone.”

A fifth remarked: “More to the point, why do up a fairly new road surface?”
