German footy fans praised after finding Tartan Army member’s phone in portable toilet and handing it in to police – but not before snapping a selfie on it

A GROUP of German football fans have been praised after helping return a Tartan Army member’s phone – but not before they snapped a selfie on it.

Scotland fan Kieran lost his mobile during his time in Cologne on Wednesday, where the national side played to a 1-1 draw against Switzerland

However, Kieran needn’t have worried as the hospitality of the host nation shone through when a group of friendly German supporters stumbled on the device in a portable toilet.

The group handed the phone in to police where it was ultimately returned safely to Kieran, but it seems they wanted to let the grateful Scotsman know who his saviours were, by snapping a pic of themselves that he later stumbled on in his photo album.

The fans ensured the phone was returned safely to its owner.

The selfie shows the group of five fans beaming from ear to ear and posing for the photo as they prepare to return the device.

The group, consisting of four men and a woman, grin as they make a variety of gestures towards the lens.

With the familiar black, yellow and red of the nation’s flag visible draped around the shoulders of one of the blokes, and the German crest peeking through on their shirts, it’s not hard to figure out what country they’re supporting.

Upon discovering the selfie, Kieran enlisted the help of the Tartan Army itself to try and track down the friendly Germans to thank them for saving his phone.

The photo was posted yesterday with the caption: “Kieran left his phone in a Portaloo. These Germany fans found it, took a selfie, then handed it in to the police.

“He has his phone back. What a country.  Can we find these fans?”

The post has received over 60,000 likes and more than 580 comments from social media users praising the German’s friendliness.

One user said: “I didn‘t know that Germany-Scotland love is what I needed. Please don‘t ever leave Scots. Can we build a direct tunnel? Or a gigantic bridge?”

Another added: “That’s Germany for you. I’m surprised they didn’t recharge the battery, before handing it in.”

A third replied: “Gives you some relief to know that there are still nice people about.”

Another commented: “Wishing the Scottish team all luck needed to proceed into the knock-out [rounds].

“The Tartan Army is a first-class ambassador for the fine Scottish people.”
