Lanarkshire ground maintenance company brings jobs boost to northeast

A LANARKSHIRE weed control, ground maintenance, and tree management company is bringing a jobs boost to the northeast after securing a major contract for the region’s roads.

Complete Weed Control (CWC), now covering most of Scotland from its new base in Larkhall, will hire 16 new staff to meet the demands of the North East Network (NMC) Maintenance Contract from Amey.

The six-year contract involves cutting 4.9 million square meters of grass and will see CWC opening a new facility in Arbroath.

Amey, a provider of UK infrastructure solutions, delivers trunk road services in the North East for Transport Scotland.

Director Keith Gallacher said his new staff have “fantastic” attitudes.

The contract area ranges from Dunblane and Dunfermline to Inverness, Keith, and Fraserburgh, covering 593km of trunk roads, including 485 bridges and structures like the Friarton Bridge.

Keith Gallacher, director of Complete Weed Control, said: “Coming on the heels of a series of contract wins at the start of the year, this tremendous deal will be a major driver of growth for the company in the coming years.

“We have already created six new jobs in Arbroath and a further six in Aberdeen and the new staff are keen and enthusiastic.

“Our success in this bid was down to quality of service, rather than price, and we are very excited to be developing our relationship with an organisation as big and dynamic as Amey.

“We are confident that it will lead to greater things.”

Complete Weed Control has continued to gain contracts across Scotland, posting a record £2.75m in sales last year, up from £2m the previous year.

In January, CWC won deals with Stirling Council for invasive weed control, North Lanarkshire Council for tree removal, and FCC Environment for landscape maintenance.
