SCOTS have been left in stitches after spotting an X-rated Tartan Army flag at the Euros sporting a well-known Scots phrase.
The traditional Saltire has been given a bit of a makeover with additional words added to the flag that was spotted abroad yesterday.
A cheeky phrase has been added which might leave our German hosts scratching their heads but will have Scots cracking up.
Photo evidence shows the banner in all of its glory tied up on a barrier as the Tartan Army unwind before heading to Stuttgart for a do or die clash against Hungary.
The Scotland badge takes pride of place in the middle of the flag with “Bonnie Scotland” encased in a yellow banner at the top and bottom.
It is the words inside the Saltire which left Scots howling however as the particular owners of this flag are known as the Sporting Astauner Tartan Army.
The term stauner refers to the male appendage when in its erect form and has become engrained in popular culture through Scottish comedy shows.
One of the most popular clips comes from sketch show Chewin’ The Fat, when Karen Dunbar and Ford Kiernan’s characters catch their teenage son with a ‘stauner’.
So enraged are the parents that they proceed to call his granny to let her know what her grandson is sporting.
In terms of the Tartan Army flag, some clever wordplay allows for the term Sporting to serve as a moniker like Spanish and Portuguese football teams do.
Sporting Astauner will be hoping that Steve Clarke’s men can prove difficult to beat and deliver a knockout blow to Hungary’s hopes of progression in Germany with a first win for over 28 years at the competition.
The hilarious flag was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Seen some great flags out here but ‘Sporting Astauner’ takes a bit of beating.”
The snap received over 1,700 likes with dozens of comments from Scots who were doubled over with the tongue-in-cheek flag.
One said: “New Scottish club name.”
Another added: “They have Yerda Selsavon up front aye?”
A third commented: “Probably the name of their Sunday league team.”
Another replied: “Mannschaft instead of Bonnie.”
Scotland’s crunch match against Hungary in Stuttgart comes after the Tartan Army were praised by a second German city for their behaviour with Koln mayor Henriette Reker extending an invitation to return to all Scots.
