Twisted Renault driver mows down Scots cyclist just yards from children’s play park in Dundee

THIS is the shocking moment that a motorist seemingly deliberately runs over a man on an electric bike – just yards from a children’s play area.

The sickening incident took place on Alexander Street in Dundee last week and was even brazenly filmed by the driver of the car, who plowed into the cyclist at twice the speed limit.

Mercy crews attended the scene with the Scottish Ambulance Service revealing that one man was transported to Ninewells Hospital for treatment.

Video shows the cyclist as he weaves up onto the pavement then down onto the road as the driver of the Renault speeds towards him on the wrong side of the road.

The driver, who is filming the incident on a mobile phone, reaches a speed of 60 miles per hour before ramming into the back of the cyclist.

As the cyclist disappears below the bonnet upon contact, the French manufactured motor makes a sickening thud before the motorist speeds off down the road.

The clip cuts to another point of view showing police officers later in attendance at the scene inside an area which they have cordoned off for only their officers.

The cyclist’s e-bike can be seen perched up against a road sign which indicates drivers should be going at 30 miles an hour.

The shocking clip was shared online yesterday with the caption: “This happened in Dundee a couple of days ago, a man in a car runs over a bloke on an electric bike.”

The post received over 270 likes with dozens of comments from stunned social media users who couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

One said: “I mean I hate bikers as much as the next guy, but this is too extreme.”

Another added: “The car driver is going to prison.”

A third replied: “What the f**k was that for?”

Another commented: “The driver is f*cked for using a vehicle as a deadly weapon and filming it at the wheel.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9:20pm on Wednesday, police received reports of a disturbance on Alexander Street near its junction with James Street, Dundee.

“Officers attended and a 31-year-old man was found beside an electric scooter with serious injuries.

“He was conveyed to Ninewells Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, this is being investigated as a deliberate and contained incident with no threat to the wider public.

“Inquiries to establish the full circumstances remain ongoing.

“Anyone with information or potential dashcam footage from the area is urged to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 3971 of June 12.

“Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 9:35pm on Wednesday to attend a road traffic collision on Alexander Street, Dundee.

“We dispatched two ambulances to the scene and one patient was transported to Ninewells Hospital.”
