Brit tourist accidentally stumbles upon legendary bobsleigh from cult classic movie Cool Runnings whilst on Jamaican holiday

A BRITISH tourist accidentally stumbled upon the legendary bobsleigh from cult classic movie Cool Runnings whilst on holiday in the Carribean.

The unnamed bloke was left delighted to randomly find what appeared to be the prop from the 1993 film whilst out and about in the Jamaican capital of Kingston.

In the film, four Jamaican sprinters who have been unsuccessful in their attempts to qualify for the Summer Olympics in 1988 decide to head to the Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada instead.

Incredibly, the film is loosely based on a true story which saw four Jamaican athletes capture the hearts and minds of millions across the world with their country’s debut in the Winter Olympics of ‘88.

Pictures taken by the tourist show the bobsled sat outside in the sun outside a building in Kingston, Jamaica.

The black livery of the bobsled has worn in the three decades since the film was shot with significant scratches appearing around the centre of the body.

The national flag of Jamaica sits proudly at the top of the bobsled with the word ‘JAMAICA’ stacked vertically in large yellow letters.

A white area on the nose indicates the equipment was used in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.

A secondary picture shows the green and yellow colours of Jamaica on the side of the bobsled running from the top to the nose.

The tourist was unsure whether it was one of the actual bobsleds from the Winter Olympics or if it was just one from Cool Runnings.

He shared the image yesterday writing: “Found it in Jamaica, I don’t know if it’s the movie prop but it’s nice to see it here.”

The snap received over 16,000 likes with hundreds of comments from social media users who were quick to offer their views on the legendary Olympians.

One said: “Nuff (sic) people say that know they can’t believe, Jamaica we have a bobsled team.”

Another added: “Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up it’s bobsled time.”

A third replied: “There is a bar at the Jamaican airport that plays this movie nonstop, it [the bar] might even be called Cool Runnings.”

Jamaica suffered a crash on their third run in Calgary and were unable to complete their fourth run meaning they suffered a Did Not Finish (DNF) and came 30th.

The gold medal was won by Switzerland ahead of the German Democratic Republic in Silver and the USSR taking bronze.
