Scots piper wows footy fans with rendition of German national anthem ahead of Euros 

A SCOTS piper has wowed football supporters ahead of the Euro 2024 opener in Munich, Germany with an incredible rendition of the host’s national anthem – on the bagpipes.  

Fraser Smith, from Glasgow, headed to Marienplatz, Munich yesterday with hundreds of other members of the famed Tartan Army.  

The air in the German city was filled with the ethereal sounds of the pipes but Fraser left locals touched after his rendition of their anthem ‘Das Lied Der Deutschen’.  

Surrounded by Scots and German footy fans Fraser blasted the tune at full volume outside of a bar in Munich to the amazement of onlookers.

Video shows the 17-year-old Scot blasting away on his pipes while locals and members of the Tartan Army soak up the atmosphere ahead of the big kick-off.  

The young lad took to Germany, bringing his pipes with him for the Euros and has been spotted playing several bagpipe hits around the city. 

Fraser is filmed wearing a Scotland shirt as he pipes the anthem which shares a familiar tune to the hymn Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah.  

Proud Scots fans watch on alongside German supporters who appear shocked to hear their own anthem being blasted out on the traditionally Scottish instrument.  

The video was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Scotland fan Fraser Smith, from Glasgow, entertained members of the Tartan Army in Marienplatz in Munich city centre with an unusual tune for the bagpipes – the German national anthem.”  

The footage proved popular amongst Scots fans on social media and racked up over 835 likes and dozens of comments.  

One user said: “Love to see stuff like this, two countries very close to my heart.”  

Another added: “Aww seen him loads in the town, playing in all weathers.”  

A third said: “Great. Winning friends and influencing people.”  

Another replied: “Passport, money, ticket, bagpipes.”
