Edinburgh locals left stunned after allegedly drunk bloke leaps into dirty depths of the Water of Leith – twice

EDINBURGH locals were left stunned after an allegedly drunk bloke leapt into the dirty depths of the Water of Leith – twice.

The man supposedly took a dip in the river on Sandport Place in the capital’s Leith district yesterday on two separate occasions.

Witnesses say the man – who they claim was heavily intoxicated – was accompanied by a woman and a dog, who didn’t go for a swim but found the stunt hilarious.

Bystanders raised concerns over the man’s health, with many remarking that the city’s dirty water – that one local said they’ve seen “rats climbing out of” before – could make him seriously ill.

The man was alleged to be heavily intoxicated.

A passing local who witnessed the man’s bizarre stunt snapped a photo of him while he swam to the edge of the river to climb back out again.

The man’s head is only just visible above the waterline in the photo with an unidentified woman pointing in his direction.

The drunken man appears to be struggling to swim a little, with witnesses reporting an ambulance arriving for him once he had found his way out of the river.

The photo was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Just watched a drunk man jump into the waters of Leith twice.”

The post received over 155 likes and more than 40 comments from locals and witnesses left divided in their sympathy for the Scot.

One user said: “He’ll be in and out of the bathroom more than twice if he swallowed any of that.”

Another added: “Oh Christ. Fully expecting a full response team to show up soon.”

A third replied: “Will be one of the drunks/drug addicts that sit at the benches right where the photo is taken. These people ruin everywhere they go.”

Another commented: “F***ing idiots, I’ve watched rats climbing out of there many a time.

“Some d**k did it a few weeks ago – police [and] ambulance were all involved – waste of resources.”
