A YOB has been arrested after falsely installing police lights and sirens on his car and racing around the city – whilst high on cocaine

Officers with the Merseyside Traffic Police pulled the vehicle over yesterday after not recognising it as an official unmarked police car.

It was then that they discovered the brazen motorist inside was in fact just a bloke who had fitted blue lights to his Mercedes and was flying around Liverpool.

The driver was tested for drugs and was found to be high on cocaine, prompting officers to take him into custody over drug driving and dangerous driving, where he currently remains.

The man was found to be high on cocaine while racing around in his fake police car.

Images of the offending car’s engine bay show a bundle of loose wiring presumably powering the fake lights connected to the vehicle’s battery

The car sports two flashing blue lights behind the windshield with a further two in the rear window, giving the impression that it’s an official undercover cop motor.

The car’s illegal modification was used by the motorist to fly around traffic, disobeying traffic laws under the guise of being a police officer.

Images of the fake police car were shared to social media by the Merseyside Traffic Police yesterday with the caption: “The driver of this hire car had installed his own lights & sirens and thought he could go racing around the city.

“He was captured driving dangerously on CCTV and when stopped he tested positive for cocaine.

“He was arrested for drug drive, dangerous driving and remains in custody.”

The post quickly racked up over 825 likes and more than 55 comments from users suggesting suitable punishments for the yob.

One user said: “I hope you add ‘impersonating a police officer’ to the charge sheet?”

Another added: “He could do with a few lessons from an auto electrician before attempting anymore installations himself.”

A third joked: “Some set up he has there. His lights wired to the battery, and he was wired to the moon.”

Another wrote: “The worrying factor is how easy it is to buy this equipment, all for the price of a night out and a curry.”
