Scots golfer Robert MacIntyre share emotions amid delight at maiden PGA win

SCOTS golfer Robert MacIntyre’s family has been left in tears following the golfer’s maiden win on the PGA Tour.

The 27-year-old held his nerve to see off the world’s best including Rory McIlroy on his way to winning the Canadian Open last week.

Oban native MacIntyre carded a two-under final round to clinch the title at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario.

The win has netted the left-handed golfer a cool £1.3m ($1.69M) alongside exemptions for next year’s Masters and the PGA Championship – however his family has been left emotional by the success.

Robert’s sister Nicola took to social media just moments after MacIntyre had sealed the victory in the Great White North.

She posted the official winner’s picture from the RBC Canadian Open to social media and added her own thoughts to the celebration.

In a post filled with love hearts and trophy emojis, she wrote: “Could not be prouder and to do it all with dad by your side.

“What a dream come true.”

Her post received over 1,700 likes with dozens of comments from golfing fans who were overjoyed to see MacIntyre break his duck on the PGA Tour.

One said: “So well deserved, Bob is incredible and so gracious and to do that with your dad on the bag is something else, as you say dreams come true.”

Another added: “You must be so proud, I was a nervous wreck watching it, so God knows how you feel, looking forward to watching Bob at Troon next month.”

A third replied: “Incredible, they’ve both filled a whole country with pride, absolutely brilliant.”

Another commented: “Absolutely fantastic, over the moon for Bob and to have his dad by his side makes it even better for all the family.”

MacIntyre will be hoping to continue his rich vein of form when he returns home for The Open next month (JUL 18) with golf’s showpiece event taking place at Royal Troon in South Ayrshire.
