SCOTS have slammed a Police Scotland initiative which invited citizens to have a cup of coffee with their local police officers and joked “who’s bringing the doughnuts?”
The aptly named Coffee with a Cop will see officers from Police Scotland attend the Starbucks Coffee Shop in the Cineworld at Fountain Park in the capital.
Police Scotland’s Edinburgh branch shared a poster advertising the event earlier last week.
However, many locals in Auld Reekie were quick to dismiss the idea and claimed that local police don’t exist anymore.
An image shared by Police Scotland shows a cup of coffee sat in a white mug with text that reads: “Coffee with a cop, your local police officers invite you to come and meet them and have coffee with a cop.
“This is a chance to speak with your local police officer about absolutely anything that matters to you in your local community.”
The information in the poster advises that there will be six sessions of the Coffee with a Cop with the first going ahead last week at Starbucks.
People waiting for their chance to have a sit-down with local police must wait until 20 June to share their gripes with the local constabulary.
The force shared the picture with the caption: “Coffee with a Cop, if you have a local issue you would like to discuss with your community officers please pop in to Starbucks at Cineworld, Fountain Park, dates and times on poster.”
The post received dozens of likes and comments from social media users that were quick to share their views.
However, some were quick to air their views as Police Scotland shared their poster earlier this week.
Kenny Manclark said: “Who’s bringing the donuts?”
Adam Ford said: “So they are always drinking coffee and eating donuts.”
Elizabeth Barron said: “My local police officer? How can that be possible when I live in the east of Edinburgh and would need to get two buses to Fountain Park if unable to get a lift.
“Whose stupid idea was it to group every session at Fountain Park, why not allocate two of the days to be at The Fort?”
