A BRITISH bar has come under fire after enforcing extensive searches on every single punter before they can enter.
Bar 1 in Consett, County Durham has roped in bouncers to pat down punters and empty their pockets after it briefly had its licence to operate revoked after a stabbing outside the boozer left two customers injured.
A video from last month shows the security employed by the bar forcing punters to cough up any items in their pockets before performing pat downs on each customer as they entered.
The footage of the bouncer and his overzealous searches shows a queue of punters lining up to get in and grab a few with their mates.
However, as they reach the front of the queue, each customer is stopped by the bouncer before being allowed to enter.
The bouncer requests each customer empty their pockets onto a small barrel in the corner of the room so he can inspect them.
Punters stand with their arms outstretched while he pats them down before being satisfied that they are not trying to deceive him and allowing them into the bar.
Once he has performed his hands-on search the bouncer awards the punters with a stamp and ushers them inside.
When a woman comes to the front of the queue the diligent bouncer uses a wand to search her as opposed to laying his hands on her.
He waves the wand thoroughly across the woman’s entire body before asking to look at the contents of her handbag.
The video was shared to social media on Sunday with the caption: “Safety at its finest. Nothing and no one is perfect but it’s the change and going beyond for you that counts.”
The footage has since received over 1,900 likes and more than 780 comments from users who were left divided by the invasive searches.
One user said: “It’s a disgrace getting searched just to go out for a drink.”
Another added: “To do an in-depth search of every punter going in means you’d be queuing for hours.”
A third replied: “Why doesn’t he use the wand on the guys too?”
Another commented: “Never checked the guy’s hood on his gilet. Big mistake.”
