A FARMER has issued a plea to the public after a dog walker allowed his pooches to run riot in one of his fields.
Richard Heady, from Buckinghamshire, was left fuming after he initially discovered two dead deer in his field, which he claims had been terrorised by dogs.
Richard then spotted one dog walker trampling crops as he strolled through the farmer’s field and allowed his pups to run around off their leads.
Video shows Richard – finally sick of dog owners doing as they please on his land – confronting the anonymous walker.
Walking up to the man, Richard says: “What do you think you’re doing? What do you think you’re doing running your dogs about on here?”
The dog walker, taken aback, walks over to the farmer with his two lurchers in tow and replies: “I just got them, they’re rescue dogs, they’re starved.”
Not accepting the excuse, Richard responds: “Yeah but there’s no need to walk them where there’s no footpath. This is a crop of wheat.”
The dog walker replies, “I just wanted to see how they are before I let them go in the park”, but Richard, still unimpressed, doesn’t let him away with it.
He continues: “These here [are] wildlife strips, for the wildlife to live in, dogs were off the lead chasing them.
“I found two dead deer in here the other day.”
Not helping himself, the dog walker admits: “I know, they (the dogs) just chased one, that’s why I put them on the lead.”
The farmer, growing angry, says: “Two dead deer in here the other day. One of them had a baby deer in its stomach, and it looked like they had been chased by dogs.”
The dog walker continues to make excuses saying: “It’s the first time I took them in there, like I say, they were starved, you can see how bad it was.
“I’ve had them for – well her for a week, this one for two weeks – and basically I wanted to see if they come back or not, and they don’t.”
Richard appears to then inform the man that he has taken down his numberplate should he see him in the field again.
Still making excuses on the way out the dog walker says: “I used to work with Wildlife National Trust, I didn’t know this was a wildlife area.”
The pair continue to talk inaudibly as Richard escorts the dog walker and his two lurchers from the field.
Sharing the video to social media on Tuesday, Richard pleaded with other dog walkers not to make the same mistake as the man in the video.
He wrote: “Makes my blood boil that people think it’s okay to trespass across a field of wheat and let their dogs chase the deer.
“I found two dead deer in here, one of which was in fawn. We have wildlife areas in this field for a reason and it’s not to entertain your dogs.”
The video has since received over 1,000 likes and more than 60 comments from social media users left shocked at the brazen dog walker.
One user said: “I didn’t know if my dogs have any recall (they don’t) so I thought I would let them out on a planted field with wildlife around. You can’t make that make sense.”
Another added: “Two lurchers he’s walking, he’s taking the piss.”
A third wrote: “Dog owners think their dogs have the right to go anywhere and do anything they want. There is no control. It’s having a terrible effect on our wildlife.”
Another replied: “He knew exactly what he was doing.”
