POLICE officers have nabbed what they have called a “persistent” disqualified driver who had racked up a staggering 44 points on his licence.
Mersey Roads Policing Unit caught up with the unnamed motorist in Allerton, West Yorkshire yesterday as he stopped to drop off dry cleaning.
Spotting the motorist’s black Skoda with exterior damage on the bumper, cops nicked the bloke after discovering the shockingly high points on his licence.
Swiftly arrested and carted off to jail by the officers, the man is part of an unenviable group of just 46 licence holders in the UK boasting more than 30 points.
With 12 points getting a motorist disqualified from driving for six months, this nabbed driver is well on his way to becoming one of the worst in the country.
Points can be earned on a licence for varying reasons including speeding, dangerous driving and other motoring offences.
They remain on a driving record for four to eleven years, whilst gathering 12 or more in the space of three years can earn motorists a ban from driving.
Mersey Roads Policing Unit shared a snap of the man’s car to social media yesterday, alongside a warning to other dodgy motorists.
Their post was captioned: “Persistent disqualified driver with 44 points on his driving license was nabbed by [Road Policing Unit] whilst he parked up to drop off some dry cleaning in Allerton.
“We might not be everywhere, but we could be anywhere. Arrested, off to jail.”
The post received over 630 likes and more than 100 comments from social media users stunned by the huge number of points, with many calling for the man to face jail time.
One user said: “44 points? Getting caught driving illegally with that many points should just be an automatic 5-year prison sentence.”
Another added: “44 points! Surely immediate disqualification and a stay at His Majesty’s pleasure is in order.
“Oh I forget the prisons are full, severe slap on the wrists and a really hefty fine then.”
A third replied: “Clearly wasting your time. Only a long prison term will keep him off the road, but you’re not allowed to arrest anyone now.”
Another joked: “Good to see the points system is working. F**k me, 44 points, he’d have finished above Everton in the Premier League with that.”
