Celtic fan podcast stunned as star player’s 85-year-old gran reveals she’s an avid listener

A CELTIC fan podcast was left stunned after the grandmother of the side’s player of the season revealed that she’s been a big fan for over a year.

The team behind A Celtic State Of Mind (ACSOM) were left delighted when Matt O’Riley’s gran commented on their podcast episode yesterday revealing her love for the show.

The 23-year-old had previously spoken of knowing that his gran Lis was very interested in his career and watched every match that he played.

Now, the 85-year-old has revealed her thanks to the ACSOM podcast for their tributes to her grandson.

ACSOM host Paul John Dykes revealed the comment yesterday evening after a tongue-in-cheek post about having worse weeks.

The presenter took to social media, writing: “Beating Rangers at the weekend, clinching the title at Rugby Park, finding out Matt O’Riley’s gran listens to ACSOM, title-winning party in Dunoon, trophy day in Paradise.

“I’ve had worse weeks.”

Alongside the post was a screenshot of a YouTube comment from Lis which read: “I believe you two nice guys love my grandson almost as much as I do.

“Thanks for the nice words, I have listened to everything for at least a year.

“Matt’s grandmother in Denmark.”

The current Celtic Player, Players’ Player and Young Player of the Season represents Denmark internationally and will be hoping to make the squad for the Euros in Germany.

He previously explained in an interview: “I do feel quite Danish, my mum is Danish and I can speak a decent amount and I can understand a very good amount.

“In that sense, I don’t think it is out of the question at all, if I did get a call up from Denmark, I don’t think I’d be saying no.”

He made his full Denmark debut in November last year starting against Northern Ireland in a Euro2024 qualifier.

Paul John’s post received over 880 likes with dozens of comments from Celtic supporters who were buzzing to find out that their midfield maestro’s family listened to the pod.

Some even speculated whether O’Riley himself has ever tuned in and enjoyed the debates that take place on the show.

One said: “I’d say Matt himself might listen, you never know.”

Another added: “That’s fantastic, what a great wee granny.”

A third replied: “Class.”

Another commented: “Matt’s granny [Celtic Supporters Club].”

O’Riley will hope to round off the season with another sterling performance in the Scottish Cup final next weekend as he bids to win his sixth major honour with the Hoops.
