Fundraiser set to have 600 people conquer all Munros in one day

A FUNDRAISER plans to have more than 600 people climb all 282 Scottish Munros in one 24-hour period.

The Mighty Munro Muster challenge, hosted by Royal Highland & Agriculture Scotland (RHASS), is set to take place on the 21st of September 2024 with all members ascending the Munros collectively.

Its goal is to raise money for other RHASS funded projects which are aimed at those living in rural Scotland, safeguarding landowners rights and protecting Scotland’s landscapes.

This challenge involves splitting the participants into teams of at least two and having them reach their Munro’s summit before climbing down safely, all within 24 hours.

Hollie Jenkins believes preserving Scotland’s rural heritage to be important.

With the help of many partners, RHASS plans to provide support to participants before the event through guidance, safety advice and training programmes to make sure all participants are prepared for the challenge.

Support is also set to be provided to participants in their efforts of fundraising for the challenge and a branded event t-shirt will be provided to all participants for the climb.

To ensure all Munros are accounted for and that everyone receives one of their skill level, participants will be entered into a ballot after choosing their level of difficulty and desired areas.

Alisdair Caulfield, RHASS Director of Advancement, stated: “The collective effort involved in this challenge will not only be a testament to community spirit, but it will also be a wonderful celebration of Scotland’s rich and rural heritage.”

Alisdair added: “We are aiming to sign up at least six hundred participants to ensure that no one faces the ascent alone, the logistics in that alone will be no easy feat.”

“Additionally, we have also set ourselves an ambitious fundraising target, which will help RHASS and our partnering beneficiaries drive positive change and a lasting impact on rural communities.”

Hollie Jenkins, a hiker who encouraged others to join the challenge alongside her and her dogs, said: “As an avid Munro bagger, I am honoured to be a part of this remarkable challenge and encourage everyone to take part in the amazing opportunity to celebrate the natural beauty of our country’s landscape.”

This challenge is a part of RHASS’s 240th anniversary alongside other anniversary plans like Harvest Thanksgiving services and an audio and visual story telling project called 240 Years of Stories.

This project plans to contribute towards both Scotland’s agricultural and rural community.

Grierson Dunlop, Land & Property Partner at Turcan Connell, stated: “As sponsors of RHASS 2024, we are delighted to be part of the society’s assortment of activities and look forward to supporting this ambitious challenge and creative fundraising initiative.”

Grierson added: “The Mighty Munro Muster Is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to help our rural communities prosper, stay active and take in the immense views from our impressive Scottish mountains.”
