POLICE in Lincolnshire were stunned after realising that a tow truck used to recover a stolen Land Rover was stolen as well.
Lincolnshire Roads Policing Unit clocked the black Land Rover Defender on the A1 near Newark yesterday, recognising it as a stolen vehicle.
Looking to reunite the motor with its owner, officers pulled over the transit vehicle used to haul the stolen 4×4 north.
However, in a hilarious turn of events, the recovery vehicle was then duly seized as well after officers quickly realised that it too was also stolen.
A snap shows the Land Rover mounted atop the blue recovery vehicle at the side of the A1, with the police car pulled up behind it.
Neither vehicle looks to be going anywhere any time soon though, after officers soon discovered the recovery vehicle to be stolen too.
In a bumper day for stolen vehicle recovery, Lincolnshire Police Specialist Operations took to social media yesterday to share the hilarious tale behind their success.
The force shared the image with the caption: “RPU reunited a stolen Land Rover with its victim following a sighting on the A1 near Newark on the back of transit heading north.
“Recovery vehicle used also reported stolen and subsequently seized.”
The post received well over 100 likes and comments from users online finding the bizarre incident hilarious.
One user said: “Was the recovery vehicle overweight, I’d do them for that as well.”
Another added: “Lock the thieves up. Don’t let them get away with it.”
A third wrote: “Are they completely thick or what?”
Another replied: “Keep the criminals out of Lincolnshire.”
