Greggs on a roll as dozens of Brits attend Newcastle bakery’s in-store rave

DOZENS of Brits rolled up to a Greggs store in Newcastle – but weren’t queuing for a steak bake.

Instead, an after-hours rave – aptly named Sausage Rolls and Stompers – took place in the bakery chain’s Northumberland Street store on Tuesday featuring DJ Schak and Will Atkinson.

Schak, 32, is known for his stints at Creamfields and performances in Australia and Ibiza – as well as hosting flash mobs in locations including in a B&Q store and on board a bus.

However, the DJ from North Shields, Tyne and Wear, has stayed local for his latest marketing move for his new track Yesterday, taking over the Newcastle store with a smoke machine, staff clad in Greggs uniform and glow sticks for all attendees.

Hilarious footage shows attendee Mia at the rave as she grins at the camera while holding a blue and a yellow glow stick in-hand.

Behind Mia is a Greggs counter with staff dressed in uniform as music thunders over the speakers.

People can be heard cheering as the beat of the music drops before the melody comes swooping in.

Atkinson can be seen behind the counter as staff burst into energetic dance moves and jump around with the crowd.

Above Atkinson is a sign that reads: “Sausage Rolls and Stompers. Feat. Schak with Will Atkinson.”

Next to the sign is a photo of the DJs alongside Abi Flynn, who also featured in the new track.

The camera then cuts to Atkinson in a full Greggs uniform, including a hat and apron, as he lifts his arms to encourage the crowd to keep dancing.

The camera then cuts to a bloke standing next to Atkinson with a smoke machine, pulling the trigger and engulfing attendees in a thick cloud of smoke.

The camera then cuts to staff dancing behind the DJs as Abi Flynn shouts into the microphone: “When I say sausage, you say roll.”

The crowd echoes her shouts as red confetti bursts out of a cannon and the smoke machine fills the room.

The camera then pans to show the excited crowd as red neon lights flash in true rave style.

Mia took to social media on Tuesday to share the incredible footage, writing: “And I can now say I’ve been to a rave inside Greggs.”

The post received over 112,800 likes and more than 112,800 comments by Brits left in stitches at what they were seeing.

One person wrote: “Greggs has literally became the cultural epicentre of the UK and I’m not mad about it.”

Another said: “Kinda wish my shop was like this now, it would make working there more fun.”

A third commented: “That Greggs has probably had more gigs than Co-op Live.”

A fourth added: I’m going to dress up as a steak bake for the next one (better be).”

Greggs wrote on their website of the event: “Stages, stompers and Sausage Rolls?

“Ever craved a bite of Greggs at an exhilarating, euro-trance-inspired DJ set complete with laser lights and a live performance from acclaimed UK dance music artists?

“Imagine, a glowstick in one hand and a Sausage Roll in another. Well, we did just that.

“To celebrate the release of Schak and Will Atkinson’s latest track Yesterday, we transformed our iconic Northumberland Street shop into an intimate DJ pop-up for 60 lucky fans to enjoy.

“Fellow British DJ and producer Charlie Boon kicked off the night with a one-hour warm-up set before Schak and Will Atkinson took to the stage.

“It might be a one-of-a-kind experience for us, but this isn’t the first time Schak has performed somewhere unexpected.

“From the Tyne and Wear Metro to the top level of a double-decker bus – it was only a matter of time before we rolled out the red carpet and hosted one of his performances at Greggs.

“If you missed out, fear not. Have a listen to Yesterday by Schak & Will Atkinson x Abi Flynn on Armada Music.”
