A DOPEY motorist has been recorded blocking the fast lane of a motorway causing a police car responding to an emergency to slow down.
Dash cam footage of the incident, which took place just outside Newton Abbot, Devon, was shared to social media earlier this month.
The video shows the completely oblivious motorist, with a green P plate on their car, showing they have recently passed their test, driving at around 50mph in the fast lane of a motorway.
Throughout the video the dopey motorist is tailgated by a police car with its siren and lights going, indicating that it is responding to an emergency.
The dopey new driver however, does not appear to notice the flashing blue lights directly behind them and carries on with their slow drive.
The motorist, completely oblivious to the very obvious emergency vehicle, carries on driving well below the speed limit.
The police car is slowed considerably in its response to the unknown emergency as it is forced to slow down and follow the new driver for miles.
The motorist recording the incident on their dash cam follows the dopey motorist and the police car for around a mile while recording before eventually stopping the video.
The completely oblivious driver continues the whole way without once making any indication of moving for the police car tailgating it.
With the incident taking place at night time the police cars lights are more than visible making it almost impossible to not see.
Social media users were left completely bewildered by the bizarre actions of the motorist, confused as to how they did not spot the emergency vehicle.
The footage was shared to social media with the caption: “Just a gentle reminder to those on the roads to make sure that we aren’t holding up emergency services.
“Driving in the right hand lane going about 40 in a 50 for no reason when there were no cars in-front. Car had a ‘P’ plate on so not sure on how he’s passed his test.”
The footage has received more than 500 likes and upwards of 290 comments from social media users.
One user said: “I see this all the time, it’s like a lot of cars have a magnet to be in the wrong lane. Absolute tools.”
Another added: “This level of unawareness is insane! Instant ban.”
A third said: “Driving it’s getting so bad many people shouldn’t be driving…”
And a fourth added: “This person should definitely hand in their driving license.”
