A BRIT bloke has been left stunned by the price of his shopping, with a few basic items coming to a whopping £62.
The anonymous lad was doing a spot of shopping in Sainsbury’s to top up on essentials after visiting Lidl but was taken aback by the ridiculously high price he was quoted for the basics.
Coming to the checkout with only some bagels, chicken, coffee and candles, the lad’s small shop quickly reached an eye-watering £62.
The man claims that the coffee and chicken alone cost him £40 driving up the price of his basic shop to ludicrous highs.
He even claims to have scanned his Nectar card to reduce the cost, but it allegedly made little difference.
A snap of his purchased items shows the bloke standing at the self-checkout, where his pile of items lies by the scanner.
Among this pile are four packs of chicken, two tins of coffee, a pack of bagels, four candles, some chicken sausages, black pepper and a jar of some sort of spread.
Whilst the bloke did note that the four candles amounted to £12 in total, he was left reeling by the £50 that the other items quickly tallied up to.
Sharing his story to social media, users were quick to suggest ways to lighten the load, including simply going to a cheaper shop like Lidl or Aldi.
However, the man claims to have already visited a Lidl that wasn’t stocked properly with the items he needed.
Taking to social media yesterday the man shared the image of his shopping with the caption: “This came to £62, my head is hot right now.”
He quickly gained more attention on social media than he was expecting with his post receiving 5,400 likes and 334 comments.
One user said: “Goning to have to diversify your shopping. That is ridiculous.”
Another joked: “I love how your desire to buy candles has gone viral and you’ve got to explain yourself to the social media world.”
A third added: “Go to the butchers for your meat, it’s not worth it in shops like that.”
Another quipped: “We might as well start hunting our meat or chicken if the prices keep rising like this.”
