Tesco staff left feeling treated like “dumb f**ks” after supermarket introduces sign explaining when to clock in and out

TESCO staff have been left feeling treated like “dumb f**ks” after the supermarket
introduced a sign in at least one branch explaining to staff when to clock in and out.

Tesco is thought to have placed the sign up in its Coatbridge premises in North Lanarkshire
yesterday after the alleged resignation of wage clerks.

The sign informs the store’s staff of the times that they must punch in and out of their shift – at the start and end.

Whilst some of the supermarket chain’s staff reckoned the sign was fair game, others
weren’t so convinced, branding it an unnecessary show of “control”.

The image shows the large piece of paper shoved into a creased and ripped plastic pocket
haphazardly.

On the paper is large blue lettering that reads: “Time and attendance, Remember to ‘clock’
at these times:
“1. Start of shift. 2. End of shift.”

The anonymous staff member behind the snap posted the sign to social media on Sunday
(28 APR), writing: “I’m so glad we’ve got this sign now. I was so confused before.”

The post received over 630 likes and dozens of comments from staff and shoppers alike
left bemused by the painfully obvious order.

One wrote: “We had to put up a sign – ‘When empty place in bin’.

“People would leave empty squash bottles on the counter in the canteen. The bin was built
into the counter, next to where the squash bottles were kept.

“They had to move it about four inches but they needed telling, painful.”

Another said: “The fact they couldn’t get it on one A4 just about sums it up.

A third commented: “This will be so that a persistently poor timekeeper can’t say they were not aware, when inevitably, they will be in a disciplinary meeting.

“Or maybe there are genuinely very forgetful people at your work.”

A fourth added: “Well, this puts me off Tesco as a brand entirely. I don’t like any business
that treats its people like dumb f***s.

“This sort of control and dumb f***age signage has stages. Next up, ‘clock in and out
during your lunch break’.

“Downward spiral of misery and flexing control in a lower-than-low manner that serves to
create people who don’t trust one another.

“Frankly, people are better than this, whoever they are.”

Tesco has been approached for comment.
