“Clearly not stopped drinking for 24 hours”: Portsmouth winger Paddy Lane leaves fans in stitches with drunken BBC interview

PORTSMOUTH winger Paddy Lane has left fans in stitches with his BBC interview after he had “clearly not stopped drinking for 24 hours”.

The seemingly plastered footballer had evidently been enjoying the celebrations following his team’s promotion to the EFL Championship on Tuesday after their 3-2 victory over Barnsley.

During last night’s interview with BBC Radio Solent Sport, nearly 24 hours after his team’s victory, Lane can be heard giggling and slurring his words.

An audio clip of the interview went viral after it was aired with Lane being unable to answer a question about gaffer John Mousinho and descending into fits of giggles.

The Portsmouth winger was clearly still drunk from the night before.

Presenter Jordan Clark poses that: “Your manager as well – John Mousinho – a lot of people doubted that appointment, questioned it.

“He had no experience and look at what you’ve achieved under him.”

Lane then seems to try and steady himself for his reply, but manages to only say: “Well yeah I think, obviously, the fact with it being his first- “

However, the 23-year-old then stumbles over his own words and fails to get any more out, instead descending into an incoherent garble of gibberish and giggles.

Lane from Halifax, West Yorkshire, hilariously laughs at himself before eventually managing to regain his composure and continue with his answer.

Social media users backed the winger saying he had reason to celebrate and would be back on top form for his match against Wigan in two days’ time.

The audio was posted to social media yesterday with the caption: “Here’s Pompey’s Paddy Lane talking live on BBC Solent Sport almost 24 hours after winning the title.

“The thing is, he’s clearly not stopped drinking for 24 hours. And his interview is absolutely brilliant.”

The clip has since received over 670 likes and dozens of comments from users left in stitches by Paddy’s ramblings.

One user said: “Can someone interview Paddy Lane continuously until he sobers up?”

Another added: “I’m literally sat in bed crying with laughter, what a lad.”

A third wrote: “The gift that keeps on giving.”

Another commented: “This is the best interview clip I’ve ever heard.”
