LONDONERS have been left fuming after changes to refuse collections have left parts of a town being described as a ‘shanty’.
A passer-by in Enfield, North London snapped a picture yesterday of the discarded rubbish which has yet to be collected.
Many people were left fuming about the scenes on Hazelwood Lane as over two dozen black bin bags were left lying on the pavement or on top of a bin.
Enfield Council recently changed from a weekly refuse service to a fortnightly service, which has caused the build-up.
The image shows three large black bins piled high with rubbish with some of the trash overflowing onto the street.
Large black bags are strewn across a large section of the pavement and might prove to be a tripping hazard late at night.
The sign on the road which reads Hazelwood Lane has rubbish piling up beside it as piles of trash lean against the large metal structure of the bin.
Many have been left seething at the site with one person describing Enfield as a ‘shanty town’ over the rubbish.
The local council leader Nesil Caliskan was blamed in a social media post over the state of the local streets yesterday.
A resident shared an image of the overflowing bins with the caption: “When did it become acceptable to live on roads like this? Nesil Caliskan has destroyed Enfield.”
The post stirred up other locals who were quick to jump on the bandwagon and express their frustration at the state of their streets.
The image of the overflowing bins received dozens of likes and comments from locals infuriated by the state of the rubbish collection in Enfield.
One said: “Enfield is a shanty town, what do you expect.”
Another added: “People cannot cope with two weekly bin collections anymore so dump rubbish everywhere. I’ve seen a tremendous amount even in parks and recreation areas.
“No good for wildlife that’s for certain. I’ve even seen bottles of urine thrown about. Disgusting.”
A third responded: “They have the money to waste on LTNs and cycle lanes.”
Another replied: “I’m so old I can remember when Enfield was a nice area to live in!”
