A HEARTBROKEN dog owner has pleaded with a local council to allow her to foster the dog that she once gave up – after the new owner abandoned the pup in the woods.
Cerris Derbyshire initially gave up the family dog due to personal reasons but believed that she was sending the dog to a good home.
However, locals heard distressed barking in Willenhall Wood in Coventry, West Midlands yesterday and found the pooch tied up to a tree.
Dog Wardens from Coventry City Council moved in to remove the malnourished hound from the woods and take it to their centre before issuing a plea for the owner to be found.
Cerris has now slammed the “breeder” that ended up with the pooch as a “scumbag” amid allegations that the dog has now been put to sleep after abandonment.
An image shows the XL Bully sat looking forlorn with a green dog lead tied around the bottom of a tree in the woodland.
The pooch shows clear signs of animal abuse with the ribs of the dog visible beneath its fur.
Cerris took to social media yesterday to slam the cruel treatment of the dog by its owner, who is a well-known local breeder, writing: “I’d just like to make a post […] you are a disgraceful human to do this and think it’s funny.
“You’re a scumbag and you will not get away with this. You neglected the dogs and then had the heart to be able to tie her up to the tree.
“I will do whatever I can to get the other dog removed from you – absolute rotten scumbag.”
The post received hundreds of likes and comments as outraged locals tried to help get the dog rehomed.
Rita May said: “I am absolutely broken. How can you do this to a dog? Regardless of its breed, you own an animal.
“You love it and care for it. I hope this guy doesn’t have children. Poor baby girl – heard she’s now been put to sleep.
“Rest in peace, darling girl, go play in the rainbow fields with all the other poor XL bullies who have fallen, thanks to our s**t Prime Minister who can’t fix our NHS but wants to ban dogs.”
Gemma Button said: “Whatever choice you make, this poor dog’s fate is already sealed. Dog Warden will have to take her vets where [she] will be put to sleep.
“Police will do the same and rescues can’t take it. I already have two dogs, so unfortunately can’t take this poor baby, otherwise I would in a heartbeat.
“Thank you for doing your best. I hope you find a solution. People who do this make me sick. My XL is the most loving caring dog. With the right upbringing they are gentle giants.
“Exemption and insurance [were] £130 for both. People had plenty of time to prepare. There are absolutely no excuses. I hope the owner of this dog gets what they deserve.”
Claire Franklin said: “Original owner should be able to get her back, surely, and what has it come to where we put a dog who has already been tied up and left by a tree, to sleep?”
Amanda Davies said: “Oh my f***ing God. Poor dog. They cannot kill her if she’s chipped to the woman who originally had her and she will exempt her.”
Coventry Dog Warden have confirmed that the case is now under investigation but could not confirm whether the dog had been put to sleep or not.
