Edinburgh pothole leaves “five cars” with burst tyres in just one day – despite allegedly already being reported EIGHTY times

A SHOCKING pothole which has allegedly been reported over 80 times is still causing havoc in the capital of Scotland.

The crater located on Queensferry Road, Edinburgh has become notorious with drivers across the East of Scotland.

Many drivers have fallen foul of the natural hazard with five drivers supposedly suffering burst tyres yesterday alone.

An image of the pothole was snapped yesterday showing the breadth of the almost two-foot car-wrecker.

The picture shows a van covered with a Sky livery carefully avoiding the large road hazard just outside of Queens Manor Care Home, which many fear should have been dealt with long ago.

Due to inclement weather, the hole is filled to the brim with rainwater which disguises the true danger of the hazard with drivers having no way to judge the depth perception.

An additional complication on the pothole is that it sits inside a bus stop leaving drivers from Lothian Buses wary of damaging their transport.

The image was shared online yesterday with the caption: “Beware this beast of a pothole on Queensferry Road, five cars with burst tyres from it this afternoon.”

The post received dozens of likes and comments from social media users who were left aghast at the size of the hazard.

One said: “That looks a small one by Edinburgh standards, on a more serious note when water fills them up the depth gets hidden and makes them even more dangerous.”

Another added: “My wife just about avoided it at the weekend, can’t believe it’s still there.”

A third replied: “I launched into it on Saturday morning and somehow survived, not even safe if you’re in the inside lane as folk are hard swerving to avoid it – went to report it on the Council pothole portal and it’s been reported 80+ times already.”

Another commented: “I just lost my front left tyre at 18:30 tonight due to this.”

A fifth responded: “That qualifies as a swimming pool.”

Potholes are created due to the increasing weight of motor vehicles against the asphalt which weakens due to rain.

Speaking today, a City of Edinburgh spokesperson said: “This pothole was reported by one of our inspectors at 9:38 this morning and it was repaired at 11:26”.
