A BRIT couple had a horror hotel ordeal after allegedly catching someone spying on them through their room’s door peephole.
Tayler Allen was spending a night in a Travelodge in Stonebridge Park, north-west London with her fiancée earlier this month and was about to grab a late-night shower when she heard a strange noise outside their door.
To the pair’s horror, they allegedly watched as the peephole was unscrewed from outside and its cover lifted to allow anyone outside to peek in.
With the supposed culprit on the other side taking off after being noticed, the two ran to the reception desk and had their room changed but have since branded the hotel “fishy”.
Footage filmed by Tayler inside the hotel room shows her pointing the camera at the peephole, which her partner is currently covering with her finger.
On-screen text reads: “We were staying in a hotel over the weekend.
“As I was getting undressed in front of the door to have a shower, we watched our peephole get unscrewed and the cover turned to be uncovered.
“It happened three times over our stay at 1am sharp.
“As my partner covered the peephole with her hand so I could get dressed and look outside, we heard a gasp and heavy breathing.”
Tayler’s partner then removed her finger from the peephole to show that the cover is loose and falls away to allow someone to look right through.
Her fiancée then opens the door and the threaded interior of the peephole can be seen lying on the ground as Tayler explains that this is the third time that this has happened.
Taking to social media last week, Tayler shared the creepy experience, writing: “Honestly, everything that happened after has to have been one of the scariest nights of my life.”
The post received over 9,980 likes and hundreds of comments from users quick to share their shock at the footage.
One person wrote: “That’s so disturbing, hope you’re okay. Please keep us updated on what happens.”
Another said: “Hotel manager here. That was definitely a staff member on a floor walk – probably heard you talking and chanced it. Guests don’t usually wander around.”
A third claimed: “The way I stayed in this hotel in January and there was a really creepy guy in reception asking my friends loads of personal questions.
“We reported it to staff but they didn’t do anything.”
A fourth alleged: “That is also the hotel that almost gave a guy a key card for my room because he said I invited him back. I didn’t. He followed me.”
In a later update on Friday, Tayler shared the alleged response from Travelodge where she was offered a £122.99 refund and an apology.
The email reads: “Thank you for your email. Firstly, we would like for all of our customers to feel comfortable when staying in our hotels.
“I am truly sorry to hear that you were made to feel uncomfortable on this occasion. I do appreciate how upsetting this must have been and for this I am truly sorry.
“I want to assure you that our hotels have measures in places such as regular floor walks in the late evenings to help with this.
“Our colleagues will follow the appropriate guidelines in handling any disruptions inside our hotels as efficiently as possible so that there is as little impact on our guests.
“I have ensured that our management team have been made aware of your comments regarding this issue.”
Speaking to Tayler today, she said: “I booked [the hotel room] because it was cheaper than staying right next to the arena I was watching a concert in.
“I knew it was a semi-shady area, but I thought like a lot of people do. Hotels have security and people around and that there’s people there to keep us safe, so it should be fine.
“The place looked a bit rundown but nothing crazy bad. On the Saturday at 1am I was stripping off to go and shower by the front of the door but as I was, I noticed a noise by the door and I looked over and saw our peephole cover being twisted from the outside.
“I kind of froze in place and called my fiancée over to me. At that point she put her hand over the door and we heard a gasp and like running away.
“We were both not in a state to open the door so I ran to get dressed and find something I could use to defend myself and started filming for evidence for security and when we opened the door they were gone.
“We shut the door, and we packed our belongings as quickly as we possibly could so we could go to reception and ask for something to be done.
“When we checked again to make sure we weren’t going to have some surprise attack when opening the door, the peephole was completely black.
“Which made me think someone had covered it from the outside. I called reception from our room, and it ended up being changed which is good.”
She added: “It’s made me have some questions. Why was this allowed to happen in the first place?
“Why are there no CCTV cameras in the corridors and have they even done anything now to try and figure out who it was that did this?
“I did notice a lot of the hotel’s peepholes aren’t in working order and a lot of women don’t feel safe staying in that hotel after looking at reviews.
“I just wish there were better policies and procedures in place to stop this from happening.
“I’ve made a police report and nobody has gotten back to me. Travelodge responded and let me know they have procedures in place to avoid this but clearly nobody is following them?
“There’s something super fishy about that hotel.”
A spokesperson for Travelodge said: “The safety and welfare of our guests and colleagues is of paramount importance to us.
“We were sorry to hear that, on this occasion, Ms Allen was made to feel uncomfortable during her stay with us and as soon as this was brought to our attention, we immediately issued Ms Allen with a refund and the issue was fixed.
“We have carried out a thorough investigation into this matter and made several attempts to contact Ms Allen to discuss these findings. We urge Ms Allen to get in touch.”
Metropolitan Police have been approached for comment.
