EMERGENCY services in London look to have adapted to city living, after an unmarked Fiat 500 was spotted sporting blue lights and a siren.
The tiny car was caught seemingly responding to an emergency call near Tower Bridge in Tower Hamlets, London on Saturday.
The unusual scene had Brits puzzled over the choice of vehicle – although some reasoned the small, agile motor probably wasn’t the worst choice for London traffic.
Video shows traffic on the Tower Bridge Approach Road parting as the familiar blue flashing lights can be seen obscured by a traditional London taxi.
The lights are accompanied by a wailing siren as, from behind the taxi, a small, black Fiat 500 emerges.
The car, whilst being one of the smallest on the road, forces the much larger vehicles aside thanks to its emergency status and takes off across a junction.
Passing the camera, the car narrowly avoids pedestrians and seems to be being driven by an emergency service worker.
Speeding off past the traffic crossings, the tiny vehicle turns up Mansell Street and off to the scene of the emergency, all whilst the London public seem entirely unfazed.
The footage of the Fiat was shared to social media on Saturday with the caption: “An emergency Fiat 500 with its blues on…”
The post has since received over 140 likes and dozens of comments from social media users who were quick to chip in with their observations.
Several users also speculated that the vehicle belonged to the London Fire Brigade (LFB), but others weren’t so sure.
One user commented: “If you’re not chasing anyone and need to transport one person, plus a kit bag, through London traffic then a 500 probably isn’t the worst choice.”
Another added: “Definitely LFB. They often get blues fitted to private cars and have some interesting models on the road.”
A third said: “Is that actually legit? Wouldn’t put anything past the Met, an Abarth might’ve made sense.”
A fourth joked: “That’s the fashion police.”
