Police van caught smashing into parked car – before shockingly fleeing the scene

WATCH the moment a police van smashes into a parked car on the side of the road – before shockingly fleeing the scene.

The incident was caught on CCTV on a street in East London and shows the dopey officer behind the wheel bizarrely ploughing into a white Audi.

However, instead of owning up to the mistake, the officer idles for a moment before brazenly motoring off down the road and out of sight.

The video shows the police van making its way along a busy street with cars parked on both sides down the entire length of the road.

The police officer fled the scene quickly after the collision.
The police officer fled the scene quickly after the collision.

Moving at speed down the narrow road, the police van approaches the white Audi, which is parked just centimetres over the line.

With the cars right side poking out onto the road ever so slightly, it creates a minor obstruction for the police van.

Unfortunately, the officer driving the van does not slow down or appear to notice how close they are to the car on the left side of the road.

Speeding along without slowing in the slightest the van slams into the parked Audi, hitting the car’s rear first and then scraping along the side and battering the front of the car.

The force of the impact rocks the smaller car and violently shifts it to the left, deeper into the space and setting the car’s alarm off.

The officer then stops the van for a moment but doesn’t get out to check the damage or leave a note.

The vehicle idles for a few moments before speeding off down the road, with the officer seemingly refusing to take responsibility for the collision.

The footage was shared to social media by a police parody account yesterday with the sarcastic caption: “We have investigated this incident, the driver of the police vehicle swerved to avoid a black cat that had run across their path, causing them to make contact with the parked vehicle.

“We found the officer not at fault.”

The clip has since received over 3,200 likes and more than 840 comments from social media users quick to make their own tongue-in-cheek comments about the officer’s actions.

One user joked: “Hope the officer issued a fine to the white Audi for obstruction of a police vehicle.”

Another added: “So it’s okay to leave the scene of an accident? Would this have even been reported had it not been for the CCTV?”

A third quipped: “To be fair I think the police were actually putting the badly parked car back in the bay properly. Keeping the roads safe. Imagine if a cyclist had hit that car.”

Another commented: “Wonderful policing. Very kind to tidy up the parking of the Audi. Finally, some proper law enforcement.”

Speaking today a Met spokesperson said: “We’re aware of a video showing a police van colliding with a parked car in Upton Park on Sunday, 17 March.

“Our driving standards unit is carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances.”
